The glass ceiling has lifted for millions of people of all ages who now realize for the first time in their lives that they are actually valued, by white america, as highly as we value being white itself. That is inconceivably powerful in their lives and identity. I am overjoyed.
However it is ironic and a sad juxtaposition that for the first time in recent history millions of people have been given the opportunity to take away about 1200 civil rights from thousands of other people who have previously enjoyed those rights. And, given that opportunity the people (52% of voters in a state) have narrowly approved writing that discrimation into the states constitution. Tragic it is for us as queer people to be that unvalued by our heterosexist and paradynmatically based society.
