Bringing Down the BigotsPosted November 05th, 2009 at 06:09am
All my life I had been active in high-impact, contact sports because I grew up with brothers who are always rowdy, rude and competitive in everything they do. They are always competing about something, no matter how small and trivial it is. Maybe that is why I had always been inclined in sports and physical activities and have the same spirit of friendly competition raging in me. All my life I had never been a sweet little girl complete with frilly dresses, dolls and make-up. I always felt more comfortable in jeans, sneakers, t-shirts and baseball caps, usually hand-me-downs from my brothers. Even my taste in music is different from other girls; I always liked heavy metal, hardcore rock music and I love going to concerts and banging my body against the frenzied crowd. Maybe I am a tomboy. Some even call me a lesbian because of my boyish air and the way I move. Maybe they're right because I had always been attracted to beautiful girls in school and I had never met a man that I really like physically and emotionally. But whatever I am and whatever my gender orientation may be, it really bugs me when I see obnoxious people that are prejudiced towards gays and lesbians. They treat other people like they have a contagious disease as people with different gender orientation are shunned and even humiliated by closed-minded fools. If that is straight then I'd rather be crooked. We should look inside people, see the real person under all the masks and outward appearances and learn how to treat others with respect whatever and whoever they are. As soon as we open our eyes, minds and heart, we will see that we are all the same, with feelings, capabilities, dreams and individuality. Now when I am not contributing to essay writing services and working part-time in a machine shop to earn money for a new car, I help my friends in their plight and advocacy to uphold and promote gay and lesbian rights. It is time to come out of the closet and it time to unite and fight for what is right. |
