True to the independent spirit, Betsy Kalin often wears the hats of producer, writer, director and editor on her film and video projects. She received a BA in Women?s Studies from Columbia College of Columbia University and an MFA in Directing from the University of Miami. In 2004, she completed the feature length documentary, Hearts Cracked Open, which premiered to great acclaim at the San Francisco International Lesbian and Gay Film Festival and has gone on to win several awards. Previously, her film, Roof, premiered at New York City?s Museum of Modern Art as part of New Directors/New Films. Roof successfully traveled the festival circuit and is a part of the Short Shorts compilation released by Picture This! Entertainment. In 1997, Betsy formed Itchy Bee Productions and her short experimental and documentary films - Postcard With Gena, You Are the Eiffel Tower of My Love, Baby, and Donkeys, Pigs, and Greens - have screened at festivals worldwide. In addition, she wrote and directed the lesbian biography series, LesBios, for Internet broadcast. Betsy has worked as a video production, lighting and editing instructor for the Los Angeles Recording Workshop and West Hollywood Public Access.
