I'm intense and tend to go deep on whatever tickles my fancy. I care a lot about esoteric topics like zoning, the black-white test score gap and the emergence of "law and order" politics in the '70s. Debating issues with friends and loved ones is a form of pleasure and a sign of affection.
More often than not I'd rather vacation off-the-grid than in the lap of luxury (but do have a taste for the exceptional and am happy to splurge accordingly).
Though not religious, I am open to anything which reminds me of what matters in life. I am a social liberal and a fiscal conservative. I take enormous pleasure in human-powered locomotion, whether on foot, wheel, water, snow or rope. When time and place permit, few things make me happier than an endurance race.
I relish food but eat like a gorilla, which is to say a lot of fruits and veggies (though I avoid the insects). I still make room for sushi, shiraz and street food. The next mountain to climb is a week or two of intensive cooking classes.
I'm impatient with mass culture and savor quirkier fare. I think a playlist says a lot about a person. People I respect and love tend to have strong, often contrarian opinions, be border-crossers and care profoundly about the world.
