Review of See The World

When you look at Houston Bernard you don?t know what to expect. A hot shirtless guy with his pants slightly pulled down and a six-pack glistening with hot oil. You might think trance music or maybe if you?re lucky some "fag rock." Instead, you get a serious performer with great songs ranging from fun dance songs to thoughtful ballads. Bernard?s new album See the World is a creative blend of unique arrangements, well-written lyrics, and Houston?s vocals that sound like a mix of Morrissey, The Scissor Sisters, and a whole lot of sexy.

Bernard offers a fun album that isn?t just commentary on New York nightlife and dick jokes. Instead they well made songs that just make you feel good. "I Feel Gorgeous" just makes you feel gorgeous with its 70s reminiscent background instrumentals and inspiring lyrics. It?s definitely a must-have when getting dressed to go out. "Mamma Lets Her Hair Down" offers some fun, happy rock with 80s style synthesizers to get you excited. "Stand and Deliver" offers a catchy happy song that blends infectious drum beats with light rock guitar riffs. Bernard?s lyrics are fun without being frivolous and inspiring without going overboard. He offers a fun, fresh voice that makes you proud to be gay. That might be a bit of a stretch but with songs like "Swallow Your Pride" that blend double-entendre with fun lyrics you can?t help but have fun.

The title song, "See the World" is a fun fast-paced dance song. It?s a bit of typical gay club fair but that doesn?t mean you can?t bop your head and enjoy it. "Dark Dancefloor" offers a haunting blend of deep baritone vocals with synthesizers and guitar riffs. "I?m Great" offers a bit of spoken-word that reminds you of old-school rap from the 80s.
What isn?t expected, is the random presence of lovey-dovey ballads on the album. Songs like "If Only in My Dreams," "It?s All About Us," and "Luv" offer the right blend of romance, sappiness, and genuine emotion. The lyrics are touching and could definitely be a dedication to your boyfriend without being embarrassing.

Houston Bernard?s inspirations come from all section of time and music. His new album "See the World" offer a unique group of sounds with Bernard?s great voice that is simultaneously sexy, thoughtful, and infectious. If you like fun and frisky lyrics or dance-inducing beats then why not check out this new album.
