personal message

Who am I? It's complicated.

I'm a 'returning' college student -- which means I dropped out last time -- at Harold Washington College in downtown Chicago. I'm an officer in my school's Pride Alliance.

I'm a linguistics geek who reads voraciously and occasionally writes. I'm halfway good at more kinds of crafts than should probably be legal. I'm fairly active in science fiction fandom; I've helped run conventions of up to 5000 people.

My feminist, queer-ally mom raised me in nonprofits, and to refuse to let what's in my pants limit what I'm 'allowed' to do, be, or have. She raised me in 'the ghetto'; we were the palest things on our block aside from our neighbor's curtains, and I began from an early age to view 'white people' as something other than myself, though that's all most people see about me at first glance.

I've got a twisted, wry sense of humor. I'm depressive by nature, but a Pollyanna by conscious choice. I have two beagles, one more insane than the other, a husband, and a mortgage.

I'm biofemale and genderqueer. I mostly have sex with men (actually, mostly with my husband -- we're monogamous). I am, slowly, beginning to realize I self-identify most strongly as male, but find 'passing' as female to be simpler than explaining 'myself' over and over to every gorram person I meet.

I'm starting to think this accomodation is rank cowardice on my part ...

My profile pic is from the last time I had boyshort hair; it represents, perhaps, the direction in which I wish to begin moving my everyday gender presentation, as a first step towards trying to love all of me (not just the easy parts).

Pursuant to that goal, I'll be putting things in my blog here that I'm not yet comfortable being 'out' about in my main livejournal (my name there is almeda if you want to see my more public side). My blog here will be friends-only, but I'm willing to friend almost anyone who's willing to read it. :->

You're a pretty good writer, you use creative n clever grammar to be brutally honest about your very personal experiences. Very witty n candid! Sounds like a FTM journal of someone in-transition...a New York best-seller in the making?? The FTM world needs more books/authors like that! Something to think about...

peace
